Healthy Lifestyle

The Cause 2000 in pursuant of its objectives, one of which is to provide information and services which develops and empower older people to live a better quality of life, will be sponsoring four workshops in September. Included in these workshops will be healthy eating and a fitness programme. It is very important that elders from the ethnic minorities' community take the initiative to keep healthy.

Eating healthily prepared food and exercising is of the utmost importance, especially if you are suffering from a chronic disease like diabetes. Many people from the BME community are not told or are not aware of the importance of eating well balanced meals, and including some kind of exercise in their daily routine. When we talk of exercise we do not necessarily mean that you rush off to the gym. Simple exercises like walking up stairs or taking a brisk walk can help. If you have difficulty moving around, sitting and conducting an orchestra while listening to the radio or moving your legs up and down as if marching while sitting in a chair are some alternatives.

These are just a few of the things you will learn about at the workshops. Ethnic food in the raw state is much healthier as it contains little or no adverse chemicals. We often delete this advantage by cooking with too much oil, salt and sugar.

Tips will be given on how to prepare your favourite dishes in healthier ways.So come to our workshops and learn how to lead a healthier lifestyle.
